The Catalyst Club is a unique monthly Brighton event that pays tribute to the old traditions of French Salon, debating societies and Gentleman's Clubs.

On the night three guest speakers take to the lectern to talk for fifteen minutes on a subject close to their heart.

Some of these previous lecture titles will give you a flavour of the evening:

Bees - Emergence Theory - Hitler's Moustache - Victorian Lantern Shows - Cunnillingus - The Exciting World of Slime Mould - Giant Squid - The Dawn of Civilisation.

Your Host

The Catalyst Club was founded by David Bramwell in 2004, and he continues to host it today.

David Bramwell is the creator of Cheekyguides Ltd, has written books on subjects ranging from language to sexuality for Penguin, Harper Collins and DK, and is the singer in the band Oddfellows Casino (Pickled Egg records) who have a small fanbase in Belgium.

He has co-hosted workshops with Ken Campbell, made appearances on BBC Radio 2 and 4 and performed in the Cheeky Guide to Brighton Stage Show for four years running. His one-man show, The Haunted Moustache, won him an award for “Outstanding Theatre” during the Brighton Festival 2008. In 2006 he traveled round the world in search of utopia. He didn’t find it, but is currently working on his next monologue, the Number Nine Bus to Utopia, based on his adventures.

Yes, he likes to keep busy and no, he doesn’t have any children; having been born and raised in Doncaster, David is still catching up on those missing years when he should have been writing a novel about isolation, listening to old Can albums and learning to play the sitar.
